I got a job. It's a research assistant with the Red Cross, working in their mutant relations area. It's perfect.

It's also in Washington D.C. Which means I'm moving out. Scott and I talked about this already and I'll be on sabbatical from the team, but if anything huge comes up you can always call me. Speed of light flight comes in handy.

We're having a farewell suite party Friday night - no booze but plenty of soda/juice/water and a LOT of pizza. Drop by for as long or as short a time as you want. I'll be heading out Saturday afternoon - Dad's coming to pick me and my stuff up. Apparently relocation services are in the Dad Handbook.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who's supported me since I turned up eleven (!!!) years ago. Dude, it's been that long? I can't even. It's been a crazy ride and I've learned so much. Take care of each other, stand strong and stand proud.

It's so weird, I never noticed it before, but did you know that on TUBI there's exactly 18 minutes between commercials? And then you get 2 commercials? Except when it's 13 minutes of program to three commercials. I never pay attention to this sort of thing normally, but now I can't help counting things.

A little bit of self-indulgent whining first. Being stabbed sucks enough, but now I'm stuck in solid form until things heal up, otherwise I need to get MORE stitches and the first batch were bad enough. Wah.

But now the main point of posting... I've caught up on the news and some of the reports and things and holy crap you guys in New York were AWESOME. Like, yeah, there's a lot of property damage (what the hell happened to Tomkins Square Park? It looks like someone dropped a nuke on it!), but all the commentary is about how there's so fewer casualties and injured than you'd expect from the mess. So you all should be so proud of yourselves for making that happen.

And of course the Friends of Humanity leadership are disavowing themselves from the whole thing. "Rogue element, fringe minority, nothing to do with us, blah, blah." It's probably a good thing I can't use my powers for now or I'd have fried the TV by now.

I'm still kind of at the hobbling around stage, so I don't think there's much I can do to help right now, but if there's anyone wants company and warm bright light, come join me in the sunroom. The sunlamp and I would welcome it. :)

So I did my usual thing of going out through my window (since I've been asked not to ghost through the walls so much so I don't mess with the power), except it didn't work the usual way.

I mean, I couldn't ghost at all, couldn't fly and instead went straight through the window and hit the ground two floors down. Without a scratch. I mean, the window's shattered and some of the frame is busted too, and there's a cartoony me-shaped divot in the lawn, but I'm FINE. Weirdly solid and I can't pick up EM fields at all, but fine.

Does anyone know what's going on?

Only two more Saturdays and then it's back to school. I mean, yeah, I finished my bachelor degree last year, but I've signed on for another couple of years to get my graduate degree and then I'll figure out if I want to go on and do my masters, or actually go out into the world. I talked to Dad about it when I went and saw him during the summer vacay and he suggested if I'm not sure to stay in college a bit longer and think about it.

It's weird. When I started at college I thought I'd be more than ready to dive into things once I was done my bachelor's, but now? I really don't know. Everything I used to be so sure about has changed and all I know is that I don't know anything for sure any more. Is it like that for everyone?

I'm here with my dad's folks (and my Dad! He got leave!) enjoying the muggy soup called summer here. Of course, with my powers I don't actually feel the weather any more, but I have to remember to complain about it for the folks not in on the whole being a mutant thing. Maybe I should get a spritzer to fake being sweaty? ;)

There's a thought for the day - what do you have to do, if anything, to fake being non-powered? Mine's faking reactions to temperature and remembering to be solid in crowds, in case someone bumps into me and goes straight through...

Arthur explained the whole "everything is open" thing, which is good because all the drawers in my room were open this morning and I thought I was going crazy.

But can anyone explain WTF is happening with all of the audio/visual stuff? What is a Mojoverse? Whatever it is, it's got some weird taste in programming. I swear I saw some kind of cooking show with a purple alien with multiple arms who kept saying "Bam!" a lot.

Uh, this is sort of embarrassing, but I'm having trouble recharging my powers after the mission and I kind of can't get solid again. Is there someone who could give me a boost, EM-wise? I don't want to be a hassle, especially with so many in the medlab, but I can't fix this myself. :(

It's Coming Out Day

I've had to think about this a lot, but this is probably the best time for this sort of post.

I'm asexual.

At first I thought I was just too busy and too ambitious to let things like sex and dating get in the way. But over the last few years, I've realised it's more than that. Things may change - sexuality is a spectrum after all and I'm only 21 - but there's something right in being able to recognise there's an actual name for how I think and feel. Beyond the usual abuse, any way, about being frigid and the rest.

No need to respond. I just thought it was time I put it into words, and to the people who, for the most part, I trust as much as my family.

(Dad was... confused, but supportive. I think he was still thinking of me as a little girl and the whole idea of sex and sexuality caught him by surprise)

New Powers Project!

So, there's this Instagram post about how animals have different colours under UV.

Back when New York was on fire, I worked out I can see in the EM wavelengths that I can channel - back then it was x-rays, which meant I could see inside this guy who'd been shot. So I'm heading to the zoo at some point to see what I can see under the UV band. And maybe infrared too. Anyone interested in joining me to take notes? ;) Switching between vision is tricky for writing stuff down.

So I finished my finals yesterday (mostly, I still have some assignments due) and sitting in my US Politics exam, I was reminded that it's election season again. Thank God.

So here's the deal. We aren't out of the woods yet. 45 might be gone and the Interim Dude is as useless as a soggy paper grocery bag (because of being Interim Dude), but that doesn't mean we can coast in November. So, here's a to-do list:

1) Enrol to vote. If you are already enrolled, make sure they haven't struck you off for some stupid-ass reason, like being a Democrat supporter.

2) Research! Look into your candidates. What are their stances on mutant rights? Human rights? Everything Rights?

3) When the time comes, GO VOTE! Help others get to the polling station. Organise your friends! All that good stuff.

I know I sound naive. I know the system's broken and that things need to change and politicians suck. But what's the alternative? Go live on a mutant-only island that has blackjack and hookers and put up a "no flatscans" sign? Finish what Magneto started with the Great Headache and kill all the humans? Rise up and overthrow the government and take over the country?

It sucks that things are the way they are. But I don't want a war. And I don't want to sit by and complain about it when I might try to do something. So I'll do my best to work with the broken system we have, in the hopes that one day we might actually be able to fix it, bit by bit.
